Water Is a Mirror

In May 2026, Nauti Studios presented Water is a Mirror: a group exhibition featuring the artists, makers musicians and creators of Nauti Studios in Glebe and Hazelbrook.

“…Still water reflects an image of the world, creating a surreal doubling, sometimes with haunting murkiness or shocking clarity. In it, we find our inverted twin, or an uncanny other. It refracts light to reveal an otherwise invisible spectrum of colour, as well as dazzling mirages and optical illusions.  A droplet acts as a miniature convex lens, an ancient discovery that revolutionaised how we see both microscopically and astrologically.”

Artist Statement

My practice reflects the sharp turn over the past few years into an uncanny reality, in which the principal purpose of humanity has become the management of an endless series of disasters. Recurring motifs of exploding skies, architectural ruins and viral landscapes summon the sense of instability of the present moment we all live in.

This selection of collage prints has been chosen for their suggestive reflections, uncanny inversions, and fluid-like forms.  The vaguely menacing leaks, drips and flooded zones are ambiguously harmonious yet unsettling, and invite the viewer to take part in a game of narrative making and speculation.
